How Manhattan Beach Movers Plan for Walk Streets, Gates and Slopes

How Manhattan Beach Movers Plan for Walk Streets, Gates and Slopes
Walk Streets: Park on the Cross Street, Carry the Rest
The walk streets are short, narrow paths toward the sand that are permanently closed to cars. Homes on them face the path rather than a street, many have no curb parking of their own, and visitors often park on an adjacent street or in a public lot and walk the last stretch. A moving truck is no different: it stops at the nearest legal spot, and the crew carries from there.
Depending on the block, the walkway is a set of stairs or a gently sloped path, and that decides the equipment. On a slope we roll wrapped furniture on dollies; on stairs we carry it on shoulder straps and add a mover when the path is long. The steps add time at the hourly rate but no stair fee, and an extra mover is $40 an hour.
Expect meters and posted time limits around the walk streets, heavier demand for curb space on weekends and warm days, and more competition for spots in peak season. Where the schedule allows, we start these moves on a weekday morning, and the crew calls 30 minutes ahead so someone can meet the truck.
Oversized-Vehicle Permits and Downtown Parking
Since February 1, 2025, Manhattan Beach police have enforced a City rule that, with few exceptions, requires a permit to park a vehicle longer than 22 feet, wider than 7 feet or taller than 8 feet on a City street; violations can mean fines and towing at the owner's expense. Residents and their guests can get such permits for up to 72 hours.
The City's notice says nothing about moving trucks that are actively loading, so it is worth confirming how the rule applies on your date. Either way, we will tell you which stretch of curb the truck needs.
An October 21, 2024 City bulletin reported the closure of the Lot 3 parking structure ahead of demolition, and said the City Council had restored the Downtown Residential Parking Permit Program and authorized 90 new public parking spaces downtown. Rules there have changed before, so for a downtown address we plan the truck stop from the signs posted on your block.
Manhattan Village and Other HOA Rules
Manhattan Village is a gated community with a staffed Guard Villa. Under its HOA rules handbook dated November 2003, guests are admitted only with the authorization of the resident they are visiting, and contractors and delivery services get a Temporary Day Pass at the entrance that expires at midnight. Tell the Guard Villa the crew is coming, and check the current rules with the on-site Management Office.
The same handbook does not allow street parking inside the Village and keeps commercial trucks out of the common area unless the Board designates a spot. Large containers may wait for movers in a street cutout or court but must leave within 48 hours of arrival unless other arrangements are made with the Management Office. Ask the office where the truck may stand; a two-day job needs a new day pass each morning.
If an HOA or building manager asks for a certificate of insurance, we issue one for $50 per building. Send us the requirements early, so the certificate reaches the office before the crew does.
Sand, Tree and Hill Sections: Three Kinds of Move
The Sand Section is the beach-adjacent west side of the city, with smaller lots and compact, fairly dense housing, closely tied to The Strand, downtown and the walk streets. El Porto, part of the beach area, is largely built on half lots. Small lots leave little room to line furniture up outside, so we wrap each piece indoors and take it straight to the truck.
The Tree Section lies west of Sepulveda Boulevard, with noticeably larger lots than the beach area. The Hill Section tends to have the largest lots of the three, many homes there have panoramic views that take in the Pacific, and it is more slope-oriented and car-oriented than the other two. On a sloped block we set the ramp on the flattest stretch of curb and move heavy pieces on straps.
In every section, a residential move is billed by the hour, and taking furniture apart and reassembling it is part of that rate. A glass tabletop travels in a crate that costs $75-$200.
Freeways, Timing and Long-Distance Moves
Caltrans District 7 lists Manhattan Beach among the seven cities on its I-405 (San Diego Freeway) auxiliary-lanes project between Artesia Boulevard and the I-105 interchange. The I-105, the Century Freeway, begins at Sepulveda Boulevard and Imperial Highway on the southern edge of LAX and runs east to the I-605 in Norwalk, with interchanges at the I-405, I-110 and I-710. We set start times to keep the truck off both freeways at rush hour when the schedule allows.
Our long-distance moving service covers all 50 states, priced as a binding estimate that reflects distance, weight and the services you add. Moving to Manhattan Beach from another state works the same way in reverse. Shorter moves within Los Angeles County, such as to Santa Monica or Culver City, are billed by the hour, and the Los Angeles County page lists the other cities we serve.
